The Trans Siberian Orchestra Composers and Concert Background
 Trans Siberian Orchestra: TSO formed in 1996 by Paul O'Neill, who immediately contacted his friends and fellow musicians Robert Kinkel and Jon Oliva.
Their focus is on three things separately, that they put together to make great rock operas: music, lyrics, and a story. They also try to mix all music genres so they are not limited by style or genre. This helps their creative juices flow. And is, in part, what makes their music so great. It has the ability to transcend traditional barriers.
Their main goal is for people to experience emotions when they listen to the music.

The band's name is inspired by the Trans Siberian Railway in Russia. Because it is a railroad, it connects many cultures, just like music.
In the recording studio, TSO uses a full 60 piece orchestra and a choir. When touring, the orchestra splits into two troupes, which allows the band the luxury of doing so many shows during the holiday season.
The shows are usually very visual, and the band employs the use of pyrotechnics, lasers, and lights that are in sync with the performance.
Paul O' Neill is a composer, lyricist, and producer. His career in the music industry is varied, which is probably why he can draw on so many different styles of music. He grew up listening to all kinds of music, obviously, including classical and rock. He has played guitar for Broadway shows, folk gigs, and for rock bands.

As a producer, he has promoted huge artists in the U.S. and Japan. After producing some rock opera albums, he started TSO, and even directed several music videos from their debut album. Their songs have even been featured on the silver screen.
Robert Kinkel is the composer, co-producer, and keyboardist. He is truly a well-rounded musician and student, who studied the piano, organ, composition, and even physics. He then became an assistant engineer for some of the biggest rock bands of the time.
He has written music for, and/or produced literally hundreds of other projects, including, commercials, television shows, and an audio book. Along with pioneering a new sound technique, he is a member of the Creative Team for TSO, writing, producing, playing keyboards, and serving as the Musical Director for all TSO albums, concerts, and television shows.

Jon Oliva is also a composer who is talented in several instruments: keyboards, guitars, drums, bass, violin, and cello. He was the main member of the band "Savatage" that toured America, Asia, and Europe. After collaborating with Paul O'Neill and Robert Kinkel for another project, he became one of the core writers for TSO. The rest, as they say, is history.
