| The
Tri-Cities Blackhawks joined the National Basketball League in the
1946-47 season. At that time the team was shared by three neighboring
cities that straddled the Mississippi River. Before the start of
the 1951-52 season, the club was transferred from the Tri-Cities
area to Milwaukee. That season the team was renamed simply the Hawks.
In 1958 the club earned its only championship. However, the Hawks
struggled after that and the franchise could no longer compete financially.
The team was then sold and moved to Atlanta, where they moved into
a brand new arena-The Omni. The Hawks continued to make it to post
season but also continued to have problems with both the Celtics
and the Bulls during crucial Game 7. The Hawks have now moved into
the state of the art Phillips Arena and are pinning their hopes
on native Georgian, Shaveef Abdur-Rahim, former Purdue standout
Glen “Big Dog” Robinson, and sharp shooting guard Jason Terry. You
can see them battle it out simply by clicking on the link above!
