| The
Utah Jazz began as the New Orleans Jazz in 1974, but there reign there
was short lived and at the end of the 1978-79 season the Jazz ownership
announced plans to move from New Orleans to Salt Lake City, Utah. The
Utah Jazz struggled through a decade at the bottom before emerging as
perennial contenders in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They made it to
the playoffs for 19 consecutive seasons, but could never get to the trophy;
the Jazz had a history of sputtering at the end of the year. They did
however reach many milestones and had many close calls. The team has a
pair of legitimate superstars in guard John Stockton, whom many observers
consider the best passer in league history; and Karl Malone, a forward
who has combined power and grace to become one of the dominant stars of
his era. But the Jazz haven’t been able to wrestle over the playoff
hump, and were no match for the “Showtime” Lakers led by Shaguille
O’Neal and Kobe Bryant or the incredible Michael Jordan and the
Chicago Bulls. |
