The Baltimore Ravens will battle the New York Jets at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday September 16th at 4:15 pm. Sadly, the one thing the Jets had going for them (honeymoon season, unexpected success as the underdog) is also the one thing that may hinder them this season. Now, they are expected to make the playoffs without a problem and to make it to the Super Bowl. They are expected to exceed everyone's expectations again. That's not to say that it can't be done, it is the same team. But the fans are pumped; they've been waiting almost 40 years for a Super Bowl win. Similarly, the Ravens also shocked their division last season as they locked up their division ranking fairly early. But the Ravens have had more practice at this, and so have most of their players. The Ravens fans have seen what their team is capable of and they're hungry for more. They may not be quite as anxious though, they're no strangers to success. The Baltimore Ravens will play the Arizona Cardinals at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday, September 23rd at 1 pm. The Ravens will definitely want to hold on to their 2006 ranking of #1 in the AFC North, but the Cardinals will be just as eager to boost their 2006 ranking of #4 in the NFC West. The Cardinals new head coach Ken Whisenhunt would like to make some changes in the team's offense. He wants to run the ball almost 60% of the time, but the Cardinal's strength lies in their passing game. Couple that with the fact that Whisenhunt will call some creative plays, as he did when he was with the Steelers, and there may be some awkward (at first) improvement in the Cardinals' game. The Ravens however, like to attack, and they like to control the pace of the game. Another thing aiding them, is they don't have to change too much of their game in order to be successful. They have a system, and it worked for them (mostly) last season. The St. Louis Rams know their defense needs some work. When they play the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday October 14th at 1 pm, they will be up against the 34 year old veteran Steve McNair. While McNair may be considered old for the NFL, he's said that he's roaring and ready for this season. His only Rams worry should be Leonard Little who had 13 sacks last season. Surely though, the Rams have worked on their offense in the off-season. The Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals make for some surprising division rivals. They will play each other at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday November 11th at 4:05 pm. The Ravens made a surprising jump last season to clench their #1 ranking in the AFC North. Cincinnati and Pittsburgh tied for the #2 spot, so this should be an interesting game. Cincinnati hopes it can only improve because last season did not end well for them. Despite this, the Bengals should give the Ravens a run for their money. Cincinnati has a terrific offensive lineup including Carson Palmer and Rudi Johnson. Although Palmer wasn't in top form last season, he didn't have an off-season program because of injury. The Ravens tactic for this season, according to Rex Ryan, is to attack. His team should blitz 75% of the time. It will be an interesting game on Sunday, November 18th at M&T Bank Stadium. The Baltimore Ravens will face one of their former teammates when they play the Cleveland Browns at 1 pm. Jamal Lewis now plays for the Browns, and Baltimore recently signed Troy Smith, who was the QB for Ohio State. In 2006, the Ravens were ranked #1 in the AFC North, while the Browns were ranked #4 in the same division. After the Ravens lost Adalius Thomas to the Patriots, the Baltimore Ravens game versus the New England Patriots at M&T Bank Stadium on Monday, December 3rd at 8:30 pm will definitely be an interesting one. In 2006, both the Ravens and the Patriots held the #1 ranking for their divisions: the AFC North and the AFC East, respectively. The Baltimore Ravens will face the Indianapolis Colts at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday, December 9th at 8:15 pm. This may be seen by some as a second Judgment Day. The first, being the 2nd round of last season's playoffs, where the "new" Baltimore team faced the "old" Baltimore team. Hopefully Baltimore will fare better in this game. Although this game is well into the season(damn near the end of it), in 2006, the Ravens were #1 in the AFC North, a position they will not want to lose, but the Colts were #1 in the AFC South. So not only is it new team versus old team, but now we're getting into north versus south. Let the game begin! Another point of interest is the Colts' Peyton Manning. If he gets more than 2,654 passing yards this season, he will join the ranks of former Colt's player Johnny Unitas, being the 11th quarterback to throw for more than 40,000 yards. The Baltimore Ravens versus the Pittsburgh Steelers at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday, December 30th at 1 pm. This should be one heck-of-a-game. The Ravens playing their biggest division rival at home in the last game of the regular season. If Roethlisberger can stay out of the hospital and off of his bike, he should do very well this season, and in this game. His biggest concern should be Terrell Suggs who loves sacks, and who has his eyes on ranking in the NFL for most sacks. This game will be his last chance for the regular season. |

| Baltimore Ravens Team History: The team is named after a poem entitled “The Raven” written in 1845 by American writer Edgar Allan Poe, who lived in Baltimore during the 1830s. In some accounts there is confusion over the history of the Baltimore Ravens because of unusual and unprecedented actions taken by the city of Cleveland, Ohio and the NFL following the relocation of the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore in 1996. The deal made between these two parties stipulates that the team name, colors, and history of the franchise were to remain in Cleveland. For that reason, past records and Hall of Fame players are attributed to the Cleveland Browns and not to the Baltimore Ravens. The Baltimore Ravens' first season was in 1996 after owner Art Modell relocated the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore.
