While the current Washington Nationals did not not begin play at RFK Stadium until 2005, baseball is not a new sport to the D.C. area. A founding member of the American League, the Washington Senators played from 1901-1960. Unfortunately, that team moved to Minnesota in 1961. A new Washington Senators team began play that year, and played in the area until 1971, finally moving to Texas in 1972. The current Nationals team began as the Montreal Expos, who played in Canada from 1969-2005. The Washington Nationals moved from their home at RFK to a new ballpark, Nationals Stadium, in 2008. Nationals Park is located in Southeast Washington, south of the Capitol, along the Capitol Riverfront, next to the Navy Yard.
