The Washington Nationals will be calling a new stadium home, starting with the 2008 season. It proves to be bigger and better than RFK, and it is called the New Nationals Stadium. The plans were announced, and ground-breaking began in 2006 for the new 41,000 seat stadium.
The stadium is located in Southeast D.C. along the Anacostia River with specatular views of the waterfront, the Navy Yard, the Capitol, the Washington Monument, and state-of-the-art accomodations. It marks the cornerstone of the riverfront re-development in the District.
It is also striving to become the first stadium in the United States to be accredited as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System certified ballpark. Close attention will be payed to the health of the adjacent river, including stormwater management and water pollution.
The New Nationals Stadium promises to offer a fantastic game day experience, with better views and seating, new technology in and around the stadium, and more accomodations. It is also rumored that there will be a grove of cherry blossoms just beyond left field, and three statues will be erected: one each of Walter Johnson, Frank Howard, and Josh Gibson.
All home games are in bold red.
