In 1996, Art Modell moved his team (then the Cleveland Browns) to Baltimore, and thus the Ravens were born.  Although, football teams moving was not a new phenomenon to the Baltimore area, as the infamous Baltimore Colts (who had Johnny Unitas at one point), moved in the middle of the night to Indianapolis in the "Mayflower Incident."  After a disappointing season, Brian Billick was fired and John Harbaugh got the job as new head coach.  Cam Cameron (former Dolphins head coach) was brought on for the upcoming season as the new offensive coordinator, and Rex Ryan will return as defensive coordinator.  The Baltimore Ravens play their home games as M&T Bank Stadium and the team general manager is Ozzie Newsome.  Also, the Ravens are one of only two NFL teams with an official marching band, the other team being the Washington Redskins.  The Baltimore Ravens do not currently have any former members in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, nor do they have any retired jersey numbers.

Great Moments in Ravens History
September 14, 2003 – Ravens running back Jamal Lewis shatters the record for yards in a single game by lighting up the Browns for 295 in a 33-13 victory over the Cleveland Browns. His second carry of the game resulted in an 82-yard touchdown, and he added runs of 63 and 48 as well. Lewis achieved the record on 30 carries and scored twice. January 28, 2001 – The Ravens win the first Super Bowl in their five-year history by destroying the New York Giants, 34-7. The defense, which had set the record for fewest points allowed in a 16-game season, holds the Giants to only 152 yards of offense. See you at the game!

Baltimore Ravens Team History:
The team is named after a poem entitled “The Raven” written in 1845 by American writer Edgar Allan Poe, who lived in Baltimore during the 1830s. In some accounts there is confusion over the history of the Baltimore Ravens because of unusual and unprecedented actions taken by the city of Cleveland, Ohio and the NFL following the relocation of the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore in 1996. The deal made between these two parties stipulates that the team name, colors, and history of the franchise were to remain in Cleveland. For that reason, past records and Hall of Fame players are attributed to the Cleveland Browns and not to the Baltimore Ravens. The Baltimore Ravens' first season was in 1996 after owner Art Modell relocated the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore.
