Usually, children under the age of two do not need a ticket, providing they sit on the lap of an adult (this may change for some kids' shows).

Getting to the Garden:
Madison Square Garden is located in Manhattan, on 7th Avenue, inbetween 31st and 33rd Streets.
It is located directly above Penn Station, and is accessible by the 1,2,3,A,C,and E trains to 34th/Penn Station.
You could also take the B,D,F,V,N,R, or Q trains to the 34th Street/Herald Square stop and then walk one block west to the Garden.
PATH trains from New Jesey stop at 33rd Street/Avenue of the Americas.
If you arriving via Metro-North, take the shuttle from Grand Central to Times Square and transfer to the downtown trains 1,2, or 3 to 34th Street/Penn Station.
