Still rising up in popularity, British Cruiserweight boxer Lawrence Okolie has come a long way in the four years he’s been active as a professional. Known as ‘The Sauce’ by fans and media, he’s gained a substantial following with his undefeated record of sixteen wins out of sixteen bouts. His boxing journey started when he was selected to fight in the Rio Olympics as a heavyweight, managing to beat the fighter representing Poland but losing to the Cuban representative. 

Since that loss he has only grown into a fiercer competitor, taking down every opponent he goes up against with heavy blows and the attitude of a winner. Throughout his career he’s managed to win the WBA Continental Cruiserweight title, the British Cruiserweight title, and most recently won both the WBO International Cruiserweight title and the general WBO Cruiserweight title. His successes have been impressive for someone who has only recently entered the realm of professional boxing. 

He won the vacant WBO Cruiserweight title from Krzysztof Glowacki at the Wembley Arena in Wembley, England on March 20th, 2021. While these matches have taken place mostly in the United Kingdom, there is a hopeful buzz from American fans that Okolie will cross the pond for a match on U.S soil.
