Will the 2021 Clemson Tigers make the College Football Playoff?
After all, the 2020 team did. And the 2019 team. And the 2018 team. And the 2017 team. And the 2016 team. And the 2015…well, you get the idea.
Under the leadership of head coach Dabo Swinney, Clemson has been a mainstay in the sport’s final four. The Tigers have qualified six straight years, advanced to the championship game four times, and won it all twice (2016-17 and 2018-19). Swinney’s teams have won 10 or more games every season for the last decade, and Clemson is hoping to continue that trend this fall.
They’ll have to do it without Trevor Lawrence, the NFL’s No. 1 overall draft pick this spring. Lawrence (and college teammate Trevor Etienne, another first-round pick) are both off to the Jacksonville Jaguars, so Clemson’s offense now revolves around quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei.
The Tigers kick off this year with a neutral site showdown against Georgia at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium September 4 before heading home to Death Valley for a Week 2 game against South Carolina State. There will be six games at Memorial Stadium in all, including a Homecoming date with Boston College on October 2 and a clash with Florida State on October 30.
The regular season finishes November 27 with a non-conference rivalry game at South Carolina, and if Clemson qualifies for its seventh consecutive ACC Championship Game, that would be played December 4 right back in Charlotte where the Tigers began the year.
