Additional Tennessee Titans Info

After winning the team’s first AFC South championship since 2008 last season, what can the Tennessee Titans do for an encore this fall?

How about chasing the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance of the millennium?

With star running back Derrick Henry once again in the backfield, anything is possible. Henry led the league in rushing for the second straight year in 2020, becoming only the eighth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season. The first-team All-Pro helped Tennessee’s offense finish second in the NFL in yards and fourth in points scored.

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill is back for his third season with the Titans. He tossed a career-high 33 touchdown passes in 2020 against only seven interceptions. Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Brown had more than 1,000 yards receiving last year to lead the Titans, and Tennessee added Falcons star Julio Jones to further strengthen its wideout corps.

If there’s an area that can improve for fourth-year head coach Mike Vrabel, it’s on the defensive side of the ball. Only four other teams allowed more yards than Tennessee did in 2020. The Titans signed veterans like Bud Dupree, Denico Autry, and Janoris Jenkins to try and change that, and used their first-round pick to add cornerback Caleb Farley out of Virginia Tech.

Tennessee hopes it all adds up to another fast start this season. The Titans won their first five games of 2020 en route to the team’s third playoff appearance in four years, but were eliminated in the wild card round by Baltimore, a team they’d beaten in the regular season.

The 2021 campaign begins with a matchup against Arizona on Sunday, September 12, followed by a road trip to Seattle in Week 2. AFC South play begins the following weekend, as the Colts come to town. The two teams finished last year with identical records, but the Titans won the division via tiebreaker.

The October schedule includes games against the top two quarterbacks taken in the 2021 draft, as Tennessee visits the Jets and Zach Wilson in Week 4 and then heads to Jacksonville to face off with the Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence in Week 5. The Titans return home to Nissan Stadium for a nationally-televised Monday night showdown against Buffalo on October 18 and a crucial game against the AFC champion Chiefs six days later.

Other highlights of the 2021 slate include a Sunday Night Football date with the Rams in L.A. on November 7 and a home Thursday Night Football contest against the 49ers in Week 16.
